The New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol said its officers were notified about the incident on Saturday evening just after 6 p.m. It took place close to Bear Island on Lake Winnipesaukee, with the initial report suggesting that a single vessel had struck bottom, WMUR reported.

Upon investigation, investigators determined there was more to the case, later finding evidence that more than one boat had been involved in the crash.
Police said officers responded to the scene and found a 20-foot Sea Ray vessel that was adrift just north of the Bear Island, which is the second largest piece of land in the Lake Winnipesaukee region.
Onboard, they found an injured woman suffering from head injuries. She was transported to a hospital in a condition that was described as "serious but non-life threatening." A man, who is believed to have been the operator of the boat, was pronounced dead at the scene, police confirmed.
Investigators said evidence in the area indicated there was another boat involved in the crash and a search team was quickly established to scour the location, WBTS reported.
Police said officers received a report about a missing boater from Bear Island, while evidence from the area appeared to be from the missing person's vessel.
